Can Aluminum Siding Be Repainted?
Yes—many sound aluminum siding systems can be repainted. Fading and chalking do not automatically mean the siding must be replaced, but the powdery residue must be removed well enough for the new coating to bond.
Dented, loose, corroded, or badly damaged panels are a separate repair decision. Existing coatings, exposed metal, oxidation, sealants, and adjacent exterior trim all affect the written scope.

For example, Sherwin-Williams’ aluminum-siding guidance calls for removing chalk, oil and other residue, and notes that an overall primer is generally unnecessary with its named Duration or SuperPaint exterior systems. That is product-specific guidance, not a no-primer rule for bare metal or every repaint.
