Trim Needs More Than a Quick Topcoat

Exterior trim protects vulnerable transitions around the roofline, openings, corners, and porch. Because these surfaces are narrow and highly exposed, coating failure often appears here before it reaches the broad siding areas.

We assess the material beneath the finish as well as the paint itself. Sound trim can be cleaned and prepared, while soft, rotten, loose, or poorly fitted components may need carpentry before coating.

  • Check joints, end grain, fasteners, and sealant
  • Identify moisture entry and repeated weather exposure
  • Separate coating preparation from necessary repairs

When Paint Is Not the First Step

Preparation may be enough when

  • The trim remains firm and correctly attached
  • Failure is limited to loose coating or open sealant
  • Exposed areas can receive the specified primer
  • Water sources and transitions are sound

Carpentry may be needed when

  • Wood is soft, rotten, split, or missing
  • Ends or joints repeatedly trap water
  • Boards are loose or no longer fit correctly
  • Prior patches cannot provide a sound coating surface

Midwest Painting Pros can replace damaged boards and perform related carpentry repairs within the agreed written scope. Roof, gutter, flashing, or structural problems may require the appropriate trade before painting. Trim-only work can also be included in a broader exterior painting project when adjacent surfaces are due.

What Our Clients Say

5 stars isn't enough for Chad and his crew. They did an absolutely amazing job painting our house. It was not just paint, it was full service. We had several shudders, collumns, and pieces of wood siding that needed repairs and they took care of all of it. The crew (shoutout Marco) was incredibly professional and made sure we were involved every step of the way. To make things even better, their prices are incredibly competitive and I am happy to say we consider ourselves lifetime customers. It is nearly impossible to find a company in this buisness that is as reasonable, responsive, professional, and competent as these guys.

From the initial consult with Chad to the final reveal, Midwest Painting Pros did an outstanding job on our home’s exterior. They made the daunting project of changing our entire color scheme a breeze, and we love the end result! We are on a heavily wooded lot which presented significant challenges, including over a decade worth of damage that critters have inflicted on our cedar siding and chimney. The carpentry crew had an awesome eye for detail and exceeded our expectations with the repairs and restoring that all to like-new prior to painting. We appreciated the top-notch professionalism, punctuality, responsiveness, and execution by Chad and his crew. Five stars!!

We are incredibly happy with the paint job that we had from Midwest Painting. We had received 3 different quotes for the job on our older home and carriage house garage. The garage is all wood and the house has older aluminum siding and a wood porch. After receiving several recommendations, we went with Chad and Midwest Painting. The quote was reasonable for the amount of work that was done. The foreman, Joquin, was polite and on top of everything. Repairs were done, lots of time was spent scraping all of the wood, and the paint job is spectacular. The whole team was very good and we were very pleased and impressed with everyone. We definitely highly recommend them!

Chad and his crew were great to work with. Chad was out and gave me an estimate for exterior painting the same day that I called. His crews did great work and were professional, courteous and prompt! Chad was great on communication throughout the whole process. I also had some minor carpentry work completed, and the carpentry crew went above and beyond with the repairs! I would definitely use Chad and Midwest Painting Pros again, I highly recommend them!

Midwest Painting Pros came highly recommended as we were the fourth house on our block to be painted by Chad Sievers’ extremely competent crew. Our house required a good deal of carpentry. We were impressed with the quality of the crew’s work. They even repaired a sticking fence gait and replaced clogged soffit vents. The surface finish looks as good as it did when the house was built 27 years ago. We would not hesitate to recommend Midwest Painting Pros.

What Affects Trim Painting Cost?

Linear Detail

Rooflines, windows, doors, corners, columns, shutters, and decorative profiles add measured detail.

Access

Height, roof pitch, landscaping, gutters, additions, and confined areas affect setup and protection.

Condition & Repairs

Peeling, bare wood, failed joints, rot, board replacement, and color change affect the scope.

Trim, Fascia & Soffits

Midwest Painting Pros can include agreed fascia and trim-board replacement in the proposal. The source of repeated water exposure should also be identified; roofing, gutter, flashing, or structural work may require another trade.

Yes, a trim-focused project may be practical when the siding remains in good condition. The estimate defines the exact fascia, soffits, windows, doors, corners, or accents included.

Soffit material and ventilation matter. Vents must remain functional, and wood, metal, vinyl, or previously coated soffits require preparation and products appropriate to their surface.

Fascia sits at a heavily exposed roof edge. Failed gutters, roof or flashing issues, open joints, bare end grain, sun, and repeated wetting can all contribute, so the cause should be assessed rather than covered.

Often, yes, but it depends on access and the condition behind the gutter. If removal is needed to reach failed paint, damaged wood, or concealed edges, that requirement should be identified in the proposal before work begins.

Linear footage, building height, roof pitch, material, peeling, bare areas, failed joints, detailed profiles, gutter access, repairs, and whether the work is trim-only or part of a larger repaint all affect the estimate.

Midwest Painting Pros serves Waukesha County and surrounding areas in Milwaukee, Jefferson, Walworth, and Racine counties. Project availability depends on the location, scope, and schedule.
